Minimum recommended PC system requirements for SubliJet, ChromaBlast & Hybrid systems users
Brought to you by BESTBLANKS.com
Information below is based on the Epson printer models (at the time of this posting) and most common design software. For Epson printer models that are prior to the ones listed below use this document as a guide.
Sawgrass currently provides the minimum system requirements needed to run each of its desktop systems. As technology continues to advance for printer platforms, computers, and graphic software, these requirements are more critical than ever for your optimum performance.
In an effort to educate our customers we are asking you to evaluate your current computer system and take a more proactive role to insure you have an appropriately set up your PC. Demands of the latest printers and the more current design programs do require more computer resources. With that in mind, we wanted to update you on these minimum system requirements for current systems and systems to be launched in the very near future to ensure your success when using a Sawgrass system.
Through our product development process and testing, we have found the following:
- Newer printers require more RAM and processor speed to work properly and at maximum efficiency and speed.
- Epson's new printers, such as the 4880 and WF30 perform well on Windows XP and Vista operating systems, and may not perform as efficiently on older Windows platforms such as Windows 2000, Windows 98 or Windows ME.
- Newer graphic design software/programs require more RAM and processor speed for maximum efficiency and speed.
- Newer graphic design software/programs perform well on Windows XP and Vista operating systems, and may not perform as efficiently on older Windows platforms such as Windows 2000, Windows 98 or Windows ME. The processor speed and RAM requirements of these programs may exceed those needed just to operate the printer..
- Presently, PowerDriver software (for SubliJet users) is designed to work exclusively on Microsoft operating systems and not on Macintosh OS systems.
- PowerDriver software is designed to handle graphic files (Bitmaps and Vector) images. Additional RAM memory and/or processor speeds greater than the minimum recommended values may be required to print large graphic files.
Sawgrass Technologies minimum and recommended system specifications for whole product solutions:
- Each new product has both a well-stated minimum and recommended system specification that take into account the printer and graphic design programs that can/should be used with the system.
- Sawgrass reserves the right to limit support to customers that use less than the minimum stated requirements for each system
Effects of using computer systems and graphics programs that are below the minimum recommended system requirements:
- Print speeds may be longer and therefore less economical to run.
- Larger graphic files may not print properly or at all.
- The computer may get 'hung up' or "time out' during the processing of the print command.
- Graphic design programs are much slower to use.
- Print spooling may not work properly because of lack of computer or printer memory capacity.
- Graphics may not print correctly. Images may be cut off.
- Longer print times lead to more room for error - i.e. nozzle drops or banding.
Bottom Line:
The minimum and recommended system specifications for new printer platform/PowerDriver solutions have increased dramatically. The more applications that are open and running at one time on a computer will greatly affect the efficiency and ability to run/print from graphics programs. Printing performance is maximized by using the latest hardware and software systems available.

Note: For newer graphic programs that are not mentioned above, use the above as a guide.
Keep in mind it's always better to have more memory and faster processor speed than having too little.
